1 Who we are

OkToWatch ("we", "us", "our") is a content advisory service that helps parents understand what's in movies and TV shows before their children watch them. OkToWatch is operated as an independent product. For questions, contact us at privacy@oktowatch.app.

2 What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the service. Here's exactly what that means:

  • Account information: your name and email address, stored securely via Clerk (our authentication provider).
  • Search history: the titles you search, when you searched them, and which child profile (if any) was active. Pro subscribers only — stored server-side in our database.
  • Saved lists: titles you add to your Approved, Blocked, or Watch Later lists, along with any notes you add.
  • Child profiles: a name, age (used only to personalise verdicts), and an emoji. No other data about your children is collected or stored.
  • Payment information: processed entirely by our payment provider (Paddle). We never see or store your card details.
  • Usage data: basic, anonymised analytics (page views, feature usage) to help us improve the product. No personal identifiers attached.
🔍 Free users: your search history is stored locally on your device only (localStorage). We never receive it.

3 How we use your data

We use the data we collect only to operate and improve OkToWatch:

  • To show you your search history and saved lists across devices (Pro subscribers).
  • To personalise content verdicts based on your active child profile's age.
  • To send the Weekly Safe Picks digest, if you've opted in (you can turn it off anytime in Settings).
  • To process your subscription and send billing receipts.
  • To fix bugs and improve the product, using anonymised usage data.

We do not use your data to train AI models, profile you for advertising, or share it with any third parties except where required to operate the service (see Section 4).

4 Third-party services

OkToWatch uses a small number of trusted third-party services to function. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management. Stores your name and email.
  • Groq — AI inference for content analysis. Queries are sent without any personally identifiable information.
  • TMDB (The Movie Database) — movie and TV show metadata and poster images. No personal data is shared.
  • Paddle — payment processing. Handles all card and billing data directly. We never receive your payment details.
  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and database infrastructure. Covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising tracking technology.

5 Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Cloudflare D1 (a SQLite-based database) running in Cloudflare's global network. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit via HTTPS.

We apply the principle of least privilege: API endpoints only access the data they need, and all routes require authentication. We do not log request bodies containing personal data.

6 Children's privacy

OkToWatch accounts are for adults (parents and guardians). We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. Child profiles within a parent's account store only a first name, age, and a chosen emoji — no email, no device data, no tracking.

If you believe a child has created an account directly, contact us at privacy@oktowatch.app and we will delete it promptly.

7 Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you — email us and we'll send a copy within 30 days.
  • Correct inaccurate data — update your name in Settings at any time.
  • Delete your account and all associated data — use the delete option in Settings, or email us.
  • Export your data — email us and we'll provide a JSON export of your history and lists.
  • Opt out of the Weekly Safe Picks digest — toggle it off in Settings at any time.

If you're in the EU or UK, you also have rights under GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

8 Cookies and local storage

OkToWatch uses:

  • A session cookie (__session) set by Clerk to keep you signed in. This is a strictly necessary cookie — no consent required.
  • localStorage on your device to remember your recent searches, display preferences, and (for free users) your local search history. This data never leaves your device.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies.

9 Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify Pro subscribers by email. The current policy is always at oktowatch.app/privacy.html.
